News from Inside Prevost Car
Our sources inside Prevost car are
providing very interesting information.
First, in an effort to avoid
layoffs such as those last year, Prevost car has determined to try to get into
the market of high-end luxury motorhome buyers. The first slide coaches in
the industry were announced by Newmar in about 1992. Prevost introduced its
first slides in 2000.
Prevost claims to be able to
introduce its Super Slide in VIP coach in January. Further, the company plans
to have a triple-slide coach in October of 2007. A quad-slide coach is being
considered, but is currently under discussion as being too difficult from an
engineering point of view at this time. (Too much weight).
In addition, Prevost Car plans to
introduce its Certified Pre-Owned Program (CPO) soon. The program features
late model pre-owned Prevost coaches at a premium price which have extended
warrantees, both on the chassis and drive train. Under discussion is the
possibility of a 5-year warranty backed by Detroit Diesel and Allison, as a
part of the sales packet. The hope is that a CPO Prevost conversion would be
a competitor to non-Prevost luxury motorhomes.
The purpose of the CPO program is
to help move Class A buyers into a Prevost Car chassis, not by selling
extended warrantees, according to company sources. It is the belief of
Prevost Car that for relatively similar pricing, customers can acquire a CPO
coach with warrantees which meet or exceed those of competitive offerings.
At press time, Prevost Car is still
negotiating with converters to determine which converters will be a part of
the CPO program.
Advertising and public announcement
of the CPO and new slide programs are expected in the next couple of months.
